Generally speaking, ASCs enjoy a significantly higher preference over hospitals based on the amount
of time that they save.
ONE REASON ASCs ENJOY A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER PREFERENCE OVER
HOSPITALS IS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF TIME THEY SAVE.
One of the many benefits of having a surgical procedure performed at an ASC is timeliness. Generally speaking, ASCs enjoy a significantly higher preference over hospitals based on the amount of time that they save: either because the ASC is more conveniently located, or because the surgical procedure is typically scheduled at a time of higher convenience. This speaks to an important marketing principle for ASCs around the concept of the patient’s time.

According to a 2016 study conducted by Deloitte entitled “What matters most to the health care consumer?” in which healthcare consumers were interviewed about their most pressing desires, “the number one preferred interaction is having a doctor or other healthcare provider spend sufficient time with the patient and not rushing through exams.1”
Another study, conducted in 2014 by the AP and NORC at the University of Chicago revealed that 80% of study respondents reported how much time a physician spends with a patient was extremely or very important in terms of choosing a provider2.

Marketing, in and of itself, cannot feasibly impact the bedside manner of an ASC, nor can it afford you any more time to sit and chat with patients. However, the converse may be true: the reputation of an ASC (see the Life Cycle principle,) can be greatly impacted by how patients believe they are being treated. And the amount of time spent with patients by high-level clinicians clearly impacts patient perception.
If your ASC is looking to grow, or is just getting started, consider building in more time (a matter of minutes per patient can be sufficient,) with each patient and their caregivers. It may become a cornerstone of your brand, and can (and should) be exploited in as many arenas as possible when it comes to bragging about your ASC.
